What is FLL Challenge?

The FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge is an exciting, hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program for students in grades 3-5.  Each year, teams of young innovators research a real-world problem, create innovative solutions, and build autonomous LEGO® robots to complete themed missions.

How It Works

Each season focuses on a new theme based on real-world issues — from energy to transportation to the environment. Teams work together on three key parts:

  1. Innovation Project
Teams research a problem related to the theme and present a creative solution to a panel of judges.

  2. Robot Game
Teams design, build, and program an autonomous LEGO® robot to complete missions on a game field within a 2.5-minute match.

  3. Core Values
Teams are encouraged to work collaboratively and demonstrate the FLL Core Values: discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork, and fun.
